Why choose IFS?

The International French School of Amsterdam offers the French National Curriculum and is an accredited member of the AEFE network (Agence pour l'Enseignement Français à l'Étranger). We prepare our pupils for the official French diplomas, the diplôme national du brevet (DNB) at the end of middle school  and the baccalauréat at the end of high school, which open doors to the most prestigious universities at home and abroad.

Bilingualism is at the heart of our educational project. From preschool, pupils are immersed in an international environment. Native-speaker teachers provide a truly bilingual education in English and French, with additional Dutch language teaching, plus the chance to study further languages from middle school. We also offer a British international track from grades 6-10 for a deeper understanding of curriculum subjects in English, plus the opportunity to study for the BFI, the international version of the French Baccaleaureate, in grades 11 and 12.

We engage our pupils’ interest through an inspiring, project-based approach that allows us to explore curriculum topics in both English and French. With an international faculty made up of native speakers, and many different nationalities represented in the school, we are a welcoming, global community, celebrating traditions from French, Dutch and English-speaking countries. We are privileged to live and work in one of the most culturally rich cities in Europe, offering numerous opportunities for children to benefit from the city of Amsterdam as an extended classroom.

Support is the watchword at IFS. With a close connection between staff, pupils and families, the school is committed to helping each pupil develop and succeed at their own pace. We are a school on a human scale with small class sizes, where teachers know pupils by name, allowing us to maintain our commitment to excellent pastoral care. With the flexibility to provide differentiated support for each student, plus additional language support in English or French as required, we enable every child to progress and experience a positive learning environment.
