Safeguarding and policies

The International French School of Amsterdam is dedicated to providing a safe and healthy learning environment where pupils can flourish.

Our safeguarding policy is designed to ensure that all members of the school community can work and learn in a secure environment. The school's internal regulations outline the rights and obligations of each community member, establishing rules for collective life applicable within the institution and during school-related activities. Agathe Pons, our nurse, is our Designated Safeguarding Leader and promotes, in collaboration with all the team, pupils' physical, social, and emotional development while protecting them from harm.

By adhering to these policies, IFS Amsterdam upholds Globeducate's standards, fostering a supportive and protective atmosphere for all pupils. Globeducate emphasizes the importance of safeguarding and welfare across its network of schools. This commitment aligns with Globeducate's mission to prepare each student to become a global citizen capable of shaping the world.

What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding is defined as:
  • Ensuring that children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Taking action to enable all children to have the best life chances
  • Preventing impairment of children's health or development
  • Protecting children from maltreatment

Safeguarding covers a range of measures including child protection procedures. It encompasses a preventative approach to keeping children safe that incorporates student health and safety; behaviour at school and preventing bullying; supporting pupils with medical conditions; personal, health, social economic education; providing first aid and site security.

School health services team

The school’s medical-social service takes care of the physical and mental health of our pupils. Our school  nurse Agathe Pons is on hand to provide nursing care, and to design, evaluate and implement health education initiatives for both individuals and groups.

We aim to support each student, according to his or her specific physical or mental health needs. The school has a medical room for any pupils that feel unwell during school hours.

Above all, the school nurse plays an essential role in our school by implementing initiatives and prevention programmes designed to promote the well-being of our pupils.

Health and wellness programmes at IFS are tailored to different age groups and include discussing body image and intimacy, sex education, first aid training, kindness and antibullying, dentist visits, healthy eating discussions and cycling proficiency.
