About the International French School of Amsterdam
The International French School of Amsterdam is a French school with an international dimension located across two sites in the heart of Amsterdam. We provide a bilingual education in English and French to pupils aged 2-18.
As an AEFE-approved school (Agence pour l'Enseignement Français à l'Etranger) and a member of the prestigious Globeducate network, we offer an innovative education which combines the rigour of the French curriculum with linguistic immersion in French and English from preschool school, plus additional Dutch language teaching.
We have a deep commitment to pastoral care and developing the whole child through arts, music, sport and community service. Pupils at IFS learn what it means to be productive members of society, acting with kindness and supporting each other to create a positive atmosphere within the school. IFS is a school with a family-orientated environment where every student is known and supported.
With over 30 nationalities, IFS offers a multicultural environment in which pupils can flourish and prepare for the challenges of tomorrow's world. Educational innovation is at the heart of our school's project, with an approach based on creativity, critical thinking and collaboration.
From middle school onwards, pupils can join the British international section, reinforcing their command of English and their exposure to English-speaking cultures. At lycée, we offer the International French Baccalaureate (BFI), a course of excellence geared towards international higher education.
“The school's commitment to providing a high-quality education in a bilingual environment is outstanding. The emphasis on cultural diversity and global citizenship is remarkable, helping pupils become well-rounded individuals. My child is thriving both academically and socially, and we couldn't be happier with our choice of school.” IFS Parent, 2024
Preparation for the Diplôme National du Brevet and Baccalauréat
All pupils at IFS take the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB). The DNB is the French national diploma awarded to pupils at the end of their middle school education. It marks the completion of middle school, which is the first stage of secondary education in the French system. After the DNB pupils continue to high school, where they study for the baccalaureate. The baccalaureate is the French high school diploma, that qualifies pupils to move into higher education at university in France, the Netherlands and further afield. We also offer French international baccalaureat (BFI: Baccalauréat Français International): our English instruction includes World History & Geography, English Language & Literature, and Advanced Contemporary Languages (ACL). Knowledge of the Contemporary World (Connaissance du Monde) forms another cornerstone of our curriculum, examining current international issues through an interdisciplinary lens.
